As details on the AC Milan talks emerge, Allan Saint-Maximin denies Newcastle’s ‘guarantee.’

During the January transfer window, Allan Saint-Maximin was linked with a move away from Newcastle.

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-future Maximin’s is still uncertain, according to reports, as the Magpies have yet to provide him with a ‘guarantee’ on what will happen at the end of the season. Saint-Maximin was heavily linked to AC Milan last month, but additional details on the talks suggest that he was always destined to stay at St James’ Park.

The Frenchman is now in his fourth season with Newcastle, having quickly established himself as a fan favorite after joining from Nice in 2019. The 25-year-electric old’s unpredictable style of play makes him one of the most entertaining Premier League players to watch.

Saint-Maximin scored five goals last season, but his production has dwindled this season. Miguel Almiron’s unexpected form and Joelinton’s encouraging performances on the opposite flank have also kept him out of the starting lineup.

Saint-Maximin has missed a number of games due to injuries over the last year, and he has only made four Premier League starts this season. Despite delighting fans in the north-east, the former France U21 international was linked with a January move to AC Milan. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that speculation about the player’s future may resurface during the summer, claiming that nothing is ‘guaranteed’.

Newcastle was allegedly opposed to Saint-Maximin leaving midway through the season, despite the fact that the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton provided manager Eddie Howe with additional options in wide areas. Rumors aside, Saint-move Maximin’s to the San Siro was reported as ‘not advanced’.

The Magpies’ winter transfer business was modest in comparison to their extensive summer recruitment. Gordon arrived in a £45 million deal, while moves for Harrison Ashby and Garang Kuol were also announced.

Newcastle, on the other hand, has raised peanuts in terms of player sales since the summer, which may give them the incentive to cash in on Saint-Maximin at the end of the season. The former Saint-Etienne youth prospect is worth more than £35 million, which could help the Magpies stay within their current FFP spending limits.

“No window is perfect, and I don’t think this window has been perfect for us,” Howe admitted of the recently closed window. That is simply the truth of the situation. I believe we’ve signed two very talented young players, and I’m very pleased with that.

“We were disappointed to lose Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey, but you have to respect players’ wishes as well and it’s not always about what the club wants. You must examine things from the standpoint of everyone’s needs and desires. We may be lacking in a few areas, but we have a lot of talent on the team.”
