Tottenham Hotspur has spoken to Alex Meret’s agents about a summer move, according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato.

Spurs completed the January transfer window by bringing in Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro. This resolves two issues in Tottenham’s squad, but Antonio Conte would like to address a few more in the next transfer window.

Meret is reportedly on their wish list, and one of them is in goal.

Tottenham has contacted Alex Meret’s agents about a summer transfer.
Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham’s main goalkeeper for a long time.

The Frenchman, who also serves as Spurs’ captain, has been an excellent servant for the North London club over the last decade. He will be remembered fondly at the club, but Conte must now consider his successor.

Lloris is now 36 years old. He’s still capable of making excellent saves, but as we’ve seen in recent years, he has a few flaws that have cost Spurs on more than one occasion.

Tottenham must sign a new goalkeeper before the end of the season, and Fabio Paratici is reportedly interested in Napoli’s Alex Meret, who will likely win the Serie A this season.

“Meret’s future?” said Venerato on the 1 Football Club podcast on 1 Station Radio. There is no breaking news. Meeting with the agent, Pastorello, at the end of the season to determine whether we need to renew or look elsewhere.

“Tottenham is interested in the boy, and the boy’s entourage has also been contacted in this market.”

Meret will enter the final year of his contract this summer, but Napoli has the option to extend it for another year.

TBR Opinion: Lloris is a fantastic goalkeeper, but Tottenham must move on.

Under Antonio Conte, the Spurs are gradually assembling a strong squad. Their attack is fantastic, their midfield is improving, and their wing-back issues appear to be resolved.

Central defense is still a major issue that will need to be addressed in the summer, and we expect Spurs to make a move to sign a new goalkeeper as well.

Meret, who can perform ‘jaw-dropping’ stops, would be a great addition and a significant upgrade over Lloris.
