According to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, Tottenham Hotspur has spoken to Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret about a possible move to North London.

Hugo Lloris’ performances this season have been disappointing, and multiple outlets have reported in recent months that Spurs intend to replace the Frenchman at the end of the season (Daily Mail).

Meret is one of the names thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, with La Repubblica (as relayed by Calcio Napoli 24) reporting two weeks ago that the Lilywhites were considering a move for the Napoli goalkeeper.

According to the report, the goalkeeper intends to extend his current contract at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium until 2024. (Transfermarkt).

Federico Pastorello, Meret’s agent, later confirmed to Sportitalia that he is in talks with Napoli about a new contract for his client and revealed that the Italian shot-stopper was of interest to some Premier League clubs.

Venerato has now updated the situation with Meret’s contract and Tottenham’s interest in the 25-year-old.

On 1 Station Radio’s program, 1 Football Club (01/02/23, as relayed by Tutto Napoli and SportWitness), the journalist stated: “Meret’s future? There is no breaking news.

“Meeting with the agent, Pastorello, at the end of the season, so we will understand if there will be a need to renew or go elsewhere. Tottenham is interested in the boy, and the boy’s entourage has been contacted in this market.”

Venerato also revealed that if Meret leaves the club, Napoli has already found a replacement.

“[Guglielmo] Vicario as Alex’s possible successor,” he added. The Caprile option, on the other hand, will be dependent on Gollini’s future redemption and will cover Meret or Vicario’s backup goalkeeper.”

Spurs Online Opinion

Meret, Jordan Pickford, and David Raya will all be in the final year of their contracts this summer unless they agree to new terms. Pickford is likely to be Tottenham’s top target, but competition for the Everton number one could heat up as Chelsea and Manchester United both look for a new goalkeeper.
