Report: Porro’s Tottenham debut is in jeopardy; Stellini may turn to ‘amazing’ £25 million player instead

Tottenham will face Manchester City this weekend, but fans hoping to see Pedro Porro make his debut may be disappointed.

On deadline day, Porro completed his move to the Spurs. Spurs eventually bowed to Sporting Lisbon’s demands to complete the deal, and the full-back got his move.

The former Manchester City man is expected to establish himself as Spurs’ first-choice right-back in the coming weeks. Porro, on the other hand, may have to wait for his debut this weekend against his former club.

According to The Evening Standard, Porro’s full debut against City is unlikely due to Antonio Conte’s absence from training. According to the ES, this means Emerson Royal will likely get the nod from Stellini and Mason, who will oversee things in Conte’s absence.

Royal remained at the club in January, despite reports that he was on the verge of being sold. In the end, the Brazilian stayed on the books, while Matt Doherty was traded.

Porro, who signed on loan ahead of a £47m deal, could still find himself on the bench. The wing-back will be itching to play, especially against his former club.

Tottenham should start Porro right away, according to TBR.
It’s understandable that Conte’s inability to see Porro has some sway here. However, the Spurs have been so bad at right-back this season that there isn’t much to lose by bringing Porro in.

It is, of course, City. They are the most difficult opponents. But Porro has proven himself at Sporting, and he will not be fazed if called up.

Tottenham fans would undoubtedly prefer to see Porro in than Royal. This season, the Brazilian has had several chances but has never looked the part.

On the surface, this appears to be an opportunity for Pedro Porro to demonstrate his talent with a big debut.
