‘Hijack was refused,’ according to Romano, who claims Newcastle considered a late move for a Manchester United player.

On deadline day, Newcastle United considered a late move to sign midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, but he was only interested in joining Manchester United.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims Newcastle considered signing Sabitzer late in the transfer window.

Bayern Munich was willing to loan Sabitzer out, and Newcastle was looking for another midfielder.

The Magpies reportedly considered a move but decided against interfering with Sabitzer’s move to Manchester United.

Romano claims Sabitzer was desperate to join the Red Devils and that all other offers were apparently ignored.

Sabitzer is ‘in love’ with Ten Hag’s approach to football, according to Romano, so any Newcastle hijacking attempt would have been futile.

“We also had some rumors on Newcastle because they were looking for that kind of player and thought that kind of opportunity was available,” he added.

“But they also decided not to proceed because Sabitzer was super keen on joining Manchester United, in love with Erik ten Hag’s football ideas, and so the hijack was refused for Sabitzer, nothing was in danger,” he added.

AFTER NEWCASTLE INTEREST, MARCEL SABITZER CAN SECURE LONG-TERM PREMIER LEAGUE FUTURE
Sabitzer has joined United on loan until the end of the season and made his debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

However, the Austrian may now be in line for a significant role.

Casemiro’s red card against Palace is a major blow to United’s midfield, as are the injuries to Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen.

Sabitzer may now be required to start twice this week against Leeds United, putting him in the deep end for United.

The 28-year-old has only started seven league games for Bayern this season, but he now has the opportunity to secure a permanent move to England.

If Sabitzer performs well for United, the club may pursue a permanent deal for him, or Newcastle may reconsider signing him.

Newcastle does require more midfield quality, as evidenced by their performances without Bruno Guimaraes, and Sabitzer is a name to keep an eye on this summer.
