Newcastle United have a defender on their ‘radar’ for the summer transfer window.

Latest news and rumors regarding Newcastle United as they prepare for their next game

Newcastle United return to action this weekend when they travel to AFC Bournemouth. Eddie Howe faces his former club in an attempt to extend his team’s winning streak.

Last time out, the Toon Army drew 1-1 with West Ham. Here’s a look at some of the most recent club news and rumors…

Newcastle United is interested in signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in the upcoming transfer window. The 25-year-old, who began his career at Club America, represented Mexico at the World Cup earlier this winter. According to Ben Jacobs of CaughtOffside:

“Arsenal considered Alvarez in January to a degree, but it became quickly clear Ajax didn’t want to do mid-season business. Liverpool has previously considered Alvarez but decided not to pursue him, and Newcastle is another club who have him on their radar.”

Last summer, Sheffield United swooped to sign Ciaran Clark on loan from Newcastle. After falling down the pecking order under Howe, the experienced defender was allowed to leave the North East to gain more game time.

According to The Star, the Blades will monitor his situation at the end of the season in preparation for a possible permanent transfer. The 33-year-old has helped Paul Heckingbottom’s side climb to second place in the Championship table, where they are on course to join table-toppers Burnley in securing automatic promotion.
