Yves Bissouma has started all but two Premier League games for Tottenham since joining from Brighton in the summer, but he will now need ankle surgery.

Tottenham Hotspur has suffered another injury setback ahead of their trip to Leicester City, announcing that midfielder Yves Bissouma has broken his ankle.

Spurs’ number one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is already out with a knee injury, and center-back Cristian Romero is suspended. Bissouma will now be forced to sit out.

Bissouma has started all but two Premier League games for Spurs this season, despite mostly being used as a substitute. In the summer, the Mali international joined from Brighton for a fee of £25 million.

“We can confirm that Yves Bissouma will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a stress fracture to his left ankle,” the Spurs said on Thursday afternoon. His return date will be determined after surgery. He will begin rehabilitation as soon as possible with our medical staff.”

With Lloris out, Fraser Forster is expected to start in goal for the Spurs at the King Power Stadium. Assistant manager Cristian Stellini gave him a vote of confidence on Thursday.

“First and foremost, I like Fraser as a man because he is a very good man,” he said. This season, his behavior has been flawless. Every day, he pushes himself to train very hard, and by doing so, he pushes Hugo to train very hard as well.

“The difference between Hugo is we start to think physically he (Fraser) is a keeper perfect for the Premier League style, for the type of game we are going to play in the Premier League, he uses both feet when he plays with the ball. So it’ll be fun to see him for a few weeks and play with him. We believe in him, completely believe in him.”
