On Tuesday evening, Tottenham will face AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 match at the San Siro.

Following a nightmare week in N17, Antonio Conte is set to be without five members of his Tottenham squad for Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 match against AC Milan. Spurs had the luxury of a fully-fit squad for their 1-0 win over Manchester City, but have since been dealt a quadruple injury blow, with Hugo Lloris, Yves Bissouma, Ryan Sessegnon, and Rodrigo Bentancur all sidelined.

Spurs will be missing not only the quartet at the San Siro, but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is serving a one-match ban in the Champions League, will also be absent. The suspension comes after the Dane received three bookings in Tottenham’s six Group D games.

According to Champions League rules, any player who receives three yellow cards must sit out their next competition match. Yellow cards are then only removed after the quarter-finals are completed.

So, are any other Tottenham players in danger of receiving a one-match ban and thus missing the return leg against AC Milan on March 8?

Tottenham currently has three players on two bookings after six Champions League group games in the 2022/23 season. Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet, and Bentancur are the players in question. Spurs’ only suspension concerns are Dier and Lenglet, as the Uruguayan ace is now out for the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Leicester City.

The England international received his two yellow cards at home against Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt, while his teammate received his on the road against Frankfurt and Marseille. Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Cristian Romero, Emerson Royal, and Ryan Sessegnon have all received one booking from the group stage. Cristian Stellini, who was in charge of the team while Conte was in the stands, also saw yellow during their late win at Marseille on matchday six.

Dier and Lenglet are the two in immediate danger, and a loss at the San Siro will compound Conte’s problems with missing players for the second leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in three weeks.
