Jeff Stelling has singled out Everton attacker Dwight McNeil in a brutal attack live on Sky Sports as the Premier League relegation battle heats up.

The winger scored the winner last time out as the Toffees picked up a sensational 1-0 win over Brentford as Sean Dyche continues his resurgence on Merseyside.

Stelling called McNeil’s goal return “unimaginably awful” after he has only scored 10 goals in his 174 games, something he will need to improve on between now and the summer.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday on 18 March, Stelling singled out McNeil as needing to give more to the cause at Goodison Park this season and beyond.

“Everton a point clear with a couple of 1-0 wins,” he said [12:56].

“Getting a tune out of Dwight McNeil, which takes a bit of doing to be brutally honest doesn’t it, he got a fantastic goal against Brentford, but he doesn’t do it enough. 10 goals in 174 games are unimaginably awful.”

Hopefully, McNeil’s strike against Brentford has given him the confidence needed to kick on and really start adding that finishing touch to his game.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling to return to fitness and Demarai Gray having to play out of position as a false nine because of Neal Maupay flopping, Everton needs more goalscorers.

Dyche has made it very clear that he knows he needs more goals from around his team, with one goal here and there possibly not enough to stay up.

Thankfully, he is helping this side pick up clean sheets most weeks and that is something that will help the Toffees stay in the Premier League for next season.

McNeil has a quality, that is very clear, it is just about him turning that into goals and assists more often each week, with his technique more than post.

Everton needs someone to stand up and hopefully, that can inspire McNeil and more.
