‘Fantastic’: Antonio Conte picks £72,000-a-week Tottenham player for praise during rant

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has praised goalkeeper Fraser Forster in Football. London for his performance against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs played out a 3-3 draw with the Saints in the league.

Tottenham was 3-1 up at one stage, but they could not win the match against one of the poorest teams in the Premier League.

And while Conte was furious with his players at the end of the game and went on an extraordinary rant in his post-match press conference, he did pick one particular player for praise.

It was the £72,000-a-week (SalarySport) goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Conte said: “I think that it’s the right moment to speak because I think that after this performance, for me this is unacceptable.

“We are winning 3-1, in control of the game and you are able to concede two goals and to risk because also Fraser made a fantastic save in one situation.”

HITC VERDICT: IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE

In our view, Fraser Forster played well for Tottenham Hotspur against Southampton.

Yes, you could argue that the former Southampton goalkeeper conceded as many as three goals, but you really cannot blame the Tottenham player for that.

Forster made a brilliant save against Theo Walcott in the 17th minute, although the former Arsenal forward was eventually deemed offside.

The Tottenham goalkeeper denied Perraud midway through the second half, and also kept out efforts from Maitland-Niles and Mara.

And he almost got his fingertips to James Ward-Prowse’s late penalty.
