Peseiro reveals exactly why Ndidi didn’t train with Super Eagles teammates on Monday

Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi did not train with the rest of his Super Eagles teammates during the national team’s first workout at the National Stadium in Abuja on Monday, March 20.

The holding midfielder was spotted with the Super Eagles’ medics as his teammates sweated on the pitch.

Ndidi has been plagued by injuries over the last year or so, limiting his appearances for the national team to one from a possible eight.

When asked to explain why Ndidi was with the medics instead of training with his teammates, Peseiro told reporters including allnigeriasoccer.com: “We stay in contact with the staff of the (players) clubs, we created that relationship between us and the teams – with the coach, with the fitness coach.

“With that connection, they informed us that it is better for Ndidi rests today to recover well. We keep that contact with them.”

Peseiro went on to explain why only thirteen of the invited players were involved in the first workout ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches and stressed it won’t affect his game plan against Guinea-Bissau.

“It’s normal, some players played yesterday, but they could not stay in the practice today. These players played two days before.

“With the schedule, it’s impossible for the players to join at the same time as the next camp. Some players arrive on the first day, some players arrive on the second day.”

Nigeria is hoping to make it three victories from three games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying when they take on Guinea-Bissau at the National Stadium in Abuja on Friday, March 24.
