Brendan Rodgers sent Harry Souttar message after Leicester City surprise revealed

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as Brendan Rodgers talks about Harry Souttar’s role in the team

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says he has experimented with playing center-back Harry Souttar up front in training.

The 24-year-old defender joined the Foxes from Stoke City in January and has become a mainstay in City’s back four. Souttar has played the full 90 minutes of Leicester’s last seven Premier League matches but is yet to keep a clean sheet.

And now manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that they have experimented with Souttar up-front after he had a good goal-scoring chance at Brentford. “He had a wee Ricky Villa moment!” Rodgers said, referencing the Argentinian’s iconic goal for Spurs in the 1981 FA Cup final.

He added: “We could do that (play him up front). We’ve had him there in training. He’s a fantastic footballer. He’s outstanding on the ball. He makes the right passes.

“First and foremost, he’s a defender, but he can play football. When you come away to Brentford and play as he did, that was a big performance. Any center-half needs to be strong and competitive and then I like them to be able to play simple football, and he’s done that. He’s been a great signing for us.”

Brendan Fern: Why don’t we experiment with winning some Premier League games?

Anthony Cox: Said that months ago. Put Vestergard up top. Holland did that in the World Cup against Argentina and scored 2. We wouldn’t be where we are in the league and be in the FA Cup still.

Jimgre: It would be a good plan to train them all to head the ball down and on target, rather than into row z. In the days of Elliott, Taggart, etc we scored regular set-piece headers, this lot has no idea and usually misses a sitter every game.

cyber: It’s early days but I think he will turn into a good CB.

Ricky Ricky: Don’t think he’s pulled up any trees yet but he’s better than the other two chuckle brothers!!

Samantha: Why not put the positions in one hat and all the players in another, then draw out a position than a player? Oh sorry, he’s been doing that for at least 2 years.

Steve Perkins: I’ve been saying for ages that we should throw Vestergaard up front for the last 15 mins of games when we desperately need a goal so imagine the advantage with both of them up front when we need a goal or 2.

Mark Snape: What a sad and desperate state of affairs we find ourselves in.

Jon Butcher: Think you will find Brian Little did this first using Steve Walsh as a forward.
