Fresh Leicester City injury worry as unfortunate streak continues

Latest Leicester City injury news from LeicestershireLive as hot prospect Ben Nelson picks up an injury while on international duty with England under-19s

Leicester City defender Ben Nelson has added his name to the club’s growing development squad injury list.

The center-back, who turned 19 last week, was withdrawn after just 33 minutes as England lost 1-0 to Iceland in under-19 Euros qualifying on Saturday.

Nelson was able to make his own way off the pitch, though according to the Yorkshire Post, was seen on crutches as he boarded the team bus after the match.

Speaking to reporters after the game, England under-19 boss Simon Rusk said: “I’m not really sure how bad it is yet, it’s maybe a bit of tightness in his calf. Hopefully, it’s not too bad.”

Having risen through the academy ranks at Leicester, Nelson is considered one of the club’s brightest prospects and is currently out on loan at League Two side Doncaster Rovers for the second half of the season – where he has been impressing supporters.

After picking up a knock on international duty, he joins a growing injury list among his fellow Leicester youngsters. Sammy Braybrooke, Will Alves, Ethan Fitzhugh, and Thanawat Suengchitthawon are all out with serious long-term knee injuries. Striker Chris Popov recently returned from a long lay-off, while Wanya Marcal-Madivada battled a similar problem earlier in the season.
