Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ed Turns has been on loan with League Two side Leyton Orient since January, making 11 appearances and scoring two goals for the promotion chasers

Brighton defender Ed Turns has been praised for how he has overcome a “baptism of fire” to impress at Leyton Orient.

The 20-year-old center-back joined the League Two promotion-chasers on loan in January, with the intention to gain first-team experience after only featuring twice for Brighton in the Carabao Cup in recent seasons.

He started twice soon after joining Orient in a 0-0 draw with Barrow and a 3-0 defeat against promotion rivals Stevenage, before then losing his place in the side.

But he soon regained it and the Albion’s loans manager Gordon Greer has hailed how he has come back from a disappointing start to his time with the east London club, having now made 11 appearances and scored two goals for Richie Wellens’ side.

Speaking to Brighton club media, Greer said: “Ed [Turns] has done really well. Leyton Orient is flying. It was a baptism of fire for Ed, they played Stevenage who at the time was breathing down Orient’s neck. Ed has said it’s something he wasn’t used to.

“He got taken out of the team afterward but that helped him knuckle down and that’s been a really pleasing development to see.

“He got back into the team and he’s done well. He’s scored a few goals and is good in both boxes. We’re pleased for him, as this is a great opportunity for him to enjoy the promotion.”
