Report: Newcastle ready £26m bid for ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’, he’s keen

Newcastle United is seemingly looking for midfield recruits ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Magpies are short in the middle of the park and will likely want to bolster their ranks.

Eddie Howe admitted he didn’t want Jonjo Shelvey to leave St James’ Park in January.

Now, a report from Italy has claimed that Newcastle is preparing a bid for a world-class holding midfielder.

According to Milan Web, via Sport Witness, the Magpies have set their sights on Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic.

Newcastle is apparently ready to present a bid of up to € 30 million, or around £ 26 million, for the 30-year-old.

Better still, Brozovic is reportedly keen on the idea, as he could be ‘very attracted’ to a Premier League move.

The report suggests that Inter probably won’t put up much of a fight, providing they get a decent offer.

Brozovic has recently lost importance in the Nerazzurri’s squad and is often on the bench.

Also, because of some injury issues this season, he has only made 24 appearances this season so far.

Brozovic is certainly a decent shout for Newcastle.

He is an incredibly talented and experienced player who continues to rank among the best midfielders in the world.

FourFourTwo recently listed the Croat as the seventh-best holding midfielder on the planet.

Brozovic was ahead of Eduardo Camavinga and N’Golo Kante but behind Declan Rice.

And if Inter accepts less than £ 30 million for him, Newcastle would be getting themselves a bit of a bargain.

That said, Newcastle could well have to splash the cash in terms of his salary.

According to Salarysport, Brozovic is on £ 184,000 a week right now.

For comparison, Bruno Guimaraes – the highest-paid player at Newcastle – is reportedly on £ 160,000 a week.

This is something the Newcastle board will have to consider.
