Tottenham begin ‘negotiations’ to sign 27-year-old who will cost around £12.3m

Tottenham Hotspur signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona at the start of the season.

While the 27-year-old has not set the world on fire since his move to the Premier League, he has been a useful player for the North London club.

Lenglet has featured in 21 league games for Tottenham so far and he has seven Champions League outings to his name as well.

The defender is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the season, but a report from Sport claims that Spurs could look to sign the player permanently at the end of the season.

Apparently, the North London giants are already ‘advancing in negotiations’ with Barcelona and the transfer could cost around €14 million.

The 27-year-old Frenchman has proven to be a useful player for Tottenham and he could continue to be an important squad option for the Premier League club. He can play in a back three as well as a back four.

Tottenham needs to add more depth at the bank and signing Lenglet for a fee of around €14 million (£12.3m) could prove to be a wise decision. The 27-year-old is certainly good enough, and the reported asking price seems quite reasonable.

The Frenchman is used to English football now and it is fair to assume that he will only get better with time.

He is unlikely to get first-team opportunities at Barcelona next season and therefore a permanent move away in the summer would be ideal for him.
