The former Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach manager is targeting a Premier League job and has been linked with both Leicester and Crystal Palace

Confusion reigns over the next step of Leicester City-linked manager Adi Hutter, with the Austrian targeting a Premier League job.

Hutter emerged as a candidate for the manager’s position at City following Brendan Rodgers’ departure, with the club eventually trusting Dean Smith to get them out of the relegation battle. However, Smith is only at the club on an interim basis and Leicester will be seeking a new manager come the summer.

It had seemed early on Wednesday that Hutter would not be a candidate for them after the former Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach boss was named by the Austrian newspaper Kurier as the man who would be taking over at Crystal Palace this summer.

However, later on, Sky Sports Austria reported that Hutter would not be joining Palace as he was being lined up for a different Premier League job. They then deleted their report.

Hutter, 53, has been open about wanting a job in England. He said just last week: “I’ve always set myself big goals. The Premier League would be a big goal.”

Palace and City are not the only clubs in the bottom half with an interim boss, with Ruben Selles in caretaker charge at Southampton and with Javi Gracia on a “flexible contract” at Leeds.

Hutter was one of the very few overseas names linked to City after sacking Rodgers, with the club’s focus on managers who had previously had a job in the Premier League. King Power has never appointed a boss who didn’t have experience in England before, and it is expected the club will approach Graham Potter if they stay up.

So far, Hutter’s career has been solely in central Europe. He won titles in Austria and Switzerland with Red Bull Salzburg and Young Boys, and then enjoyed three seasons with Frankfurt, culminating in their highest Bundesliga finish for nearly 30 years as they came fifth in 2021. He then moved to Monchengladbach but lasted just a season after finishing 10th.
