Leeds United is following RSC Internacional youngster Raul Asencio “very closely,” according to Bernabeu Digital.

The 20-year-old is, however, set to become a Real Madrid player given the fact the Spanish giants made a deal with RSC Internacional last summer, with the latter set to become the C team of the former, as per Football Espana.

Along with Leeds, La Liga outfit Espanyol is also reportedly showing interest in the youngster.

“Raul Asencio is one of the leaders of RSC Internacional, which will be the future Real Madrid ‘C’ starting next season,” according to Bernabeu Digital.

“He has been key in second place in his group in the RFEF Third Division despite not having been able to achieve direct promotion to the RFEF Second Division, but at 20 years old he seems ready to take a leap in his career.

“In this sense, as Bernabeu Digital has been able to find out exclusively, RCD Espanyol and Leeds United follow Asencio very closely.”

Exciting prospect

Leeds is seemingly constantly in the market for the next big thing in European football, and Asencio is certain to be involved in that bracket.

But the Whites will find it very difficult to persuade the youngster to leave Spain given how he will soon become a Real Madrid player.

It’s never easy trying to convince a young player of a bright future at Elland Road, with that particularly relevant in these moments with the Whites currently involved in a tense relegation battle.

Moreover, Leeds and Espanyol will no doubt be joined by other clubs in keeping tabs on Asencio, but all could reach the same outcome due to the pull that Spanish giants Real Madrid have.

Importantly for Leeds, no transfer duties should be conducted at Elland Road before the end of the campaign, where Javi Gracia’s men must be focusing all their efforts on their Premier League safety.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have confirmed they want a new version of one under-fire senior player in an official update.
