Newcastle set to announce huge new shirt sponsorship deal

The impact that front-of-shirt sponsorship has at a football club can’t be downplayed, and Newcastle United is set to unveil a new Middle Eastern sponsor at a huge cost benefit to the club.

Although Premier League clubs that have betting companies as their headline shirt sponsor have agreed to their removal by 2026, per Sky Sports, the Magpies decided to have their shirt sponsorship deal terminated two years early.

The Northern Echo noted back in October that the club was seeking more revenue, given that the deal with their current betting company sponsor was only worth in the region of £6.5m a season.

It’s expected to be announced next month that Newcastle will have a new sponsor in place who will be paying £25m a season for the privilege of having their logo on the front of the famous black and white shirts

The Times (subscription required) notes that it is with a Middle Eastern company but not one from Saudi Arabia where Newcastle’s owners, PIF (Saudi Public Investment Fund) are based.

It’s another step in the right direction for a club that was virtually on its knees under former owner, Mike Ashley.

The football played under Steve Bruce was as turgid as the off-field shenanigans, but things have turned around remarkably since the new owners have been in place and Eddie Howe has taken charge of things on the pitch.

A Champions League campaign beckons – just the right time for the new shirt sponsor to gain maximum exposure.

The Swedish forward came off the bench in the 4-1 win at Everton to set up Jacob Murphy’s goal with a stunning piece of skill

Alexander Isak’s ‘extraordinary’ piece of skill to set up Newcastle United’s fourth goal at Everton on Thursday night has been compared to a ‘young Ryan Giggs’.

The Swedish forward came off the bench in the 4-1 win at Goodison Park and created United’s final goal for Jacob Murphy with a mazy run that took out four Everton defenders before his cross was turned in by Murphy at the far post.

It capped a remarkable few days for the former Real Sociedad man, with two first-half goals in the 6-1 rout of Tottenham just a few days before.

Former England, Manchester City, and West Ham winger Trevor Sinclair knows a thing or two about creative assists and was full of praise for the Newcastle star – although highly critical of Everton’s defending.

“Isak’s skill there is extraordinary,” he told talkSPORT. “I would go as far as saying it’s disrespectful, the way that he dribbled and waltzed in and out of the Everton defenders.

“He picks the ball out on the halfway line. He’s toying with them. It’s bad from Keane and Godfrey, but it’s wing wizardry at its complete best. It reminds me of a young Ryan Giggs.”

“Someone has to say, ‘you might be winning and you might be third in the league, but nobody takes the mickey out of us’. He sent them all packing multiple times.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe must now consider whether to recall Isak to the starting line-up for the visit of Southampton on Sunday, with Callum Wilson marking his recall to the side with two goals against Everton
