Newcastle United will attempt to set a new club record when they face Southampton on Sunday.

After claiming two comfortable wins in the Premier League, Newcastle will be looking to round off a positive week with a third consecutive victory.

Newcastle thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 6-1 last weekend before they eased to a 4-1 win over Everton in Thursday’s meeting at Goodison Park.

With six games to play in the season, Newcastle are sitting in third position and are on course to qualify for the Champions League.

They are not over the line quite yet though, and Eddie Howe will be warning his side against complacency as they prepare to face Southampton for the fourth time this season.

Newcastle hammered the Saints 4-1 in the reverse league fixture before they claimed victories in both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final tie against Southampton.

The Magpies now have the opportunity to claim four victories over the same opponent in a single season for the first time in their history.

Their home record will certainly give them a reason to be confident, with their 15 home league games producing nine wins, five draws, and one defeat.

Joe Willock is expected to start on Sunday, and he will be looking forward to facing the Saints, having scored more Premier League goals against Southampton (3) than any other opponent.

The hosts are still unable to call upon the services of Allan Saint-Maximin, who is in a race against time to play again this season.
