Report: Aston Villa now ready to sell ‘terrific’ striker for £20m

Aston Villa is now reportedly ready to sell Cameron Archer, who is on loan at Middlesbrough at the moment.

Aston Villa wants £20m for Cameron Archer

The Sun has reported that Premier League club Aston Villa is willing to cash in on Archer in the summer transfer window.

Middlesbrough, who are aiming to win promotion to the Premier League for next season via the Championship playoffs, want to sign the 21-year-old striker on a permanent contract.

But the problem for Boro is the transfer fee that the Villans are looking for.

According to the report, Villa wants as much as £20 million in transfer fees for the England Under-21 international striker, who joined Middlesbrough on loan in January 2023 and is scheduled to return to Villa Park at the end of the season.

HITC Verdict: Too expensive

In our view, £20 million for Cameron Archer is too much, and we believe that if Aston Villa does really want the young striker off their books for good, then they have to lower their demands.

Yes, Archer is still only 21, and, according to Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick, he is “terrific”, but he is very young and relatively inexperienced at the top level.

The striker has made nine appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

During his loan spell at Middlesbrough so far, the 21-year-old has made 15 starts and three substitute appearances.

Archer has scored 10 goals and given six assists in those games.
