Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham’s discussions with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany have been ‘positive’.

Over the last week and a half, multiple outlets have revealed that Julian Nagelsmann has become Tottenham’s top managerial target, with the North London club expected to make a strong attempt to persuade the German to take the job (Independent).

The Athletic’s David Ornstein said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube Channel a couple of days ago that Spurs have indeed made contact with the 35-year-old.

However, he added that the deal is not done just yet and that the likes of Kompany, Arne Slot, and Luis Enrique also remain on the Lilywhites’ radar.

If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Nagelsmann is not the only candidate Spurs have spoken with, with the club also said to have held ‘positive’ talks with Kompany.

Romano also confirmed that the Burnley boss is far from the only candidate being considered by Tottenham at the moment.

He said on the Here We Go Podcast: “Vincent Kompany had a conversation with Tottenham, it was a positive conversation.

“But of course, he’s not the only candidate.

“There is a list of candidates, and so let’s see how Tottenham will proceed on the manager, but also on the director situation.”

It appears like Spurs reached out to both Enrique and Kompany previously but have focussed their efforts on Nagelsmann since the German withdrew himself from the race for the Chelsea job.

Having allowed Pochettino to go to Chelsea, the Spurs chairman has to pull out all the stops to bring the former Bayern Munich boss in.

Report: Pochettino keen to take a man who left Tottenham last year to Chelsea

The Daily Mail has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino could take Tottenham’s former technical performance director Steve Hitchen to Chelsea.

Although Chelsea has not confirmed Pochettino’s appointment yet, it appears to be almost a done deal (Sky Sports), much to the consternation of Spurs fans, many of whom still have a lot of affection towards the Argentine.

According to reports, Spurs did not even approach the 51-year-old about coming back to N17, which is said to have left the soon-to-be Chelsea boss bitterly disappointed (talkSPORT).

The Mail has now confirmed that Pochettino not only wants to take Jesus Perez, goalkeeper coach Toni Jimenez and his eldest son Sebastiano, who worked on his staff at Spurs, to Chelsea but is also keen on reuniting with Hitchen.

Hitchen’s most-recent five-year spell at Tottenham came to an end almost a year ago, with The Athletic reporting at the time that the 46-year-old lost most of his power after Fabio Paratici was appointed as Tottenham’s managing director of football in 2021.

We know that Pochettino and Hitchen share a good relationship, which might explain why Tottenham was keen on bringing the Argentine back to the club in 2021 (when Hitchen was still in charge) but are not keen on doing so right now.
