Report: Daniel Levy has now shortlisted two managers for Tottenham job

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are the two main candidates for the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s role, according to a report.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are now the main Tottenham managerial candidates

CM has reported that former Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann and ex-Barcelona manager Luis Enrique are “the main” candidates “right now” to become the Tottenham head coach in the summer of 2023.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly wants either the German or the Spaniard to take charge of the first team for next season and beyond.

Ryan Mason is in charge of the Tottenham first team on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old got the role after Spurs got rid of Cristian Stellini, who was given the reins after Antonio Conte parted company with Tottenham.

HITC Verdict: Exciting

In our view, either Julian Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique would be a great managerial appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.

Nagelsmann is a very good young manager who did relatively well during his time at Barcelona.

And Luis Enrique is a hugely experienced manager who won the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona.

We believe that either Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique would be great for the Spurs.

GARY NEVILLE SAYS HE’S ‘AMAZED’ BY 3 CALLS DANIEL LEVY HAS MADE AT TOTTENHAM

Gary Neville says he is ‘amazed’ by Daniel Levy’s three calls to previously appoint Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte as Tottenham Hotspur managers.

The Manchester United legend added that he can understand Jose Mourinho’s appointment and there being a sense of ‘desperation’ from Daniel Levy.

But he can’t comprehend the Spurs chairman making the same mistakes with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked after ten games, and then bringing in Antonio Conte.

On paper, all three are defensive-minded coaches, with the trophy-laden duo very outspoken in their ways.

That’s why it shouldn’t be a surprise that Conte decided to verbally attack Tottenham after their 3-3 draw at Southampton before the international break.

Bearing that in mind, Gary Neville expressed his surprise towards the under pressure Levy, as he told The Overlap.

“I am amazed by Daniel Levy in his appointments of Jose, Nuno, and Conte,” said Neville. “Maybe try it once because you say ‘I have got desperation, we have got a new stadium and we need to get into the Champions League. There is a financial need that we have to get in a manager that we know who can deliver.

“But he had seen what happened with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. This wasn’t going to be a shock to him. You know Conte is exactly the same. Nuno’s football at Wolves. I think Nuno’s a good coach, but you knew the football wasn’t going to be a level up from Jose’s football.

“I am really surprised by his last three managerial appointments, in terms of fit. Just all unlikely managers that you just know are going to end up in tears and divorce.

“So, from that point of view, I am struggling to understand what is happening in the last three or four years. I can only think it’s the desperation, behind the scenes, of the finances, the debt repayments, and the big owner Joe Lewis saying ‘You need to qualify for the Champions League’.”

MOURINHO AND CONTE RIGHT

Those two have the CV to back up their talk. Levy doesn’t.

Yes, they can be difficult to deal with, but that’s football, that’s why you pay them the big bucks, but most importantly, that’s why they deliver the trophies.

Levy couldn’t clearly handle that heat and now he’s getting it from his own fans, in truth, as Mourinho did with Roma, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Conte wins a trophy with his next club before Spurs even get close.
