What David Moyes has done to West Ham ace Gianluca Scamacca this season is absolutely criminal.
West Ham manager David Moyes brought Gianluca Scamacca to the London Stadium from Sassuolo in the summer of 2022 for around £35 million (Sky Sports).
However, the Italian hasn’t yet made the impact that was expected of him with the Hammers.
Scamacca has struggled so badly that he is already being linked with a return to Italy at the end of the season.
It wouldn’t surprise me one little bit if the striker left West Ham before the start of the 2023/24 campaign, as long as he recovers from the recent knee surgery that he underwent.
I blame one man and one man only for Scamacca’s struggles this season…

Moyes has always prided himself on doing his due diligence on potential new signings throughout his managerial career.
In my opinion, though, he didn’t even realize what he was buying when he signed Scamacca.
The Italian stands at 6ft 5in tall, and in my opinion, Moyes thought he was bringing a target man who could play the lone role up front on his own to the club.
Scamacca could not be further away from that type of forward though. He excelled with Sassuolo when playing in between Domenico Berardi and Giacomo Raspadori.
The 24-year-old is technically brilliant and likes to link up play between midfield and attack. He has never been a striker who runs the channels like Michail Antonio does and he never will be either.
Considering how David Moyes loves a striker in the mold of Antonio, the fact that he signed Gianluca Scamacca in the first place is absolutely baffling to me.
The other thing that the Scot got badly wrong in my opinion was how he took far too long to start the Italian. Scamacca was handed only one start in West Ham’s first seven Premier League games. He was mostly handed 15 minutes or so here and there and as a result, he didn’t score a Premier League goal until October.
Why didn’t Moyes start him straight away when he would have been flying high on confidence after making a big money move from Italy? If he struggled to adapt then Moyes could have dropped him down to the bench.
This is a common theme with the 60-year-old and is the main reason why he struggles so badly to get the best out of strikers in my opinion.
I actually feel sorry for the Italians. And if Moyes remains in charge at the London Stadium, I think that the 24-year-old striker should leave the Hammers for the good of his career.
