John Terry sends young talented star a message as striker makes Leicester City vow

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as assistant coach John Terry sends Jamie Vardy a message after a goal against Everton

John Terry has sent a message to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy after his goal against Everton on Monday night.

The Foxes recorded an important point against the Toffees at the King Power Stadium in their battle against relegation, despite spurning chances to earn a crucial victory. The 2-2 draw resulted in Dean Smith’s side leaving the bottom there and moving up to 16th on goal difference, ahead of another Monday fixture at Fulham next week.

City got off to the worst possible start as Timothy Castagne bundled over Dominic Calvert_lewin in the box, with the Everton forward finishing from 12 yards. Caglar Soyuncu soon put Leicester back on level terms, though, and Vardy put the Foxe ahead with a trademark run beyond the defense before rounding Jordan Pickford to make it 2-1.

The city may have been left frustrated after seeing James Maddison’s spot-kick saved before Alex Iwobi was able to put Everton back level. However, Vardy’s goal signaled the first time he had scored in back-to-back games since last May last year, after ending his 19-game goal drought last week.

It is a timely return to form from the 36-year-old, who posted “We keep fighting” on social media after the game. This prompted a response for City coach John Terry, who wrote, “On fire mate”, alongside a blue heart and clapping emoji.

Vardy clearly has the backing of City boss Smith, who sang the forward’s praises after he found the net against Leeds. “We needed somebody who was going to run into the spaces behind them,” he said. “The chance he scored today, we’ve seen him take loads of those. If we can keep creating chances like that, he will take them.”

Leicester will hope to get more points on the board against Fulham on Monday in order to keep their heads above the relegation zone, before facing Liverpool, Newcastle, and West Ham in the club’s final three matches.
