Tottenham Hotspur is interested in signing Allan Saint-Maximin from Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur leads the race for Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin

The Sunday Mirror (30/4; page 76) has reported that Tottenham is leading the race to secure the services of French winger Saint-Maximin.

Spurs reportedly made inquiries for the winger behind the scenes during the January transfer window and remain keen on him.

AC Milan are also interested in the 26-year-old, but it is Tottenham who are leading the race for a player described as “really dangerous” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in The Mirror in August 2022.

The report has claimed that Newcastle could demand up to £50 million in transfer fees for Saint-Maximin.

HITC Verdict: Summer transfer could happen

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur could be able to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is not playing the 26-year-old regularly, and if the Magpies qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, then they could just offload him in the summer of 2023 and invest that transfer fee to sign an upgrade.

The Frenchman himself could be tempted to leave for more playing time, especially to a big club such as Tottenham.

Saint-Maximin has made 11 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season.

The 26-year-old has scored one goal and given five assists in those games.
