Ryan Mason has been speaking to the media at his press conference at Hotspur Way ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon

Ryan Mason has confirmed that Hugo Lloris and Ryan Sessegnon will miss the rest of Tottenham’s season through injury. The Frenchman has not played for the Lilywhites since coming off at half-time in the recent 6-1 defeat away at Newcastle United due to a muscle issue, with Sessegnon’s last game coming in the 1-0 win over Man City at the start of February after he suffered a hamstring injury.

“Hugo is out for the season,” admitted the acting head coach when speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the Crystal Palace fixture. “Had the results back. Obviously disappointing. We feared that initially and now we’ve had the results.”

With the goalkeeping department an area that Tottenham will look to strengthen in the summer with Lloris nearing the end of his career and the shot-stopper also making some high-profile errors recently, the 36-year-old may have already played his last game for the club.

Pressed on next season with questions over Lloris’ future, Mason said: “I can’t speak about that but we need him as our captain for the remainder of this season.”

Mason also went on to confirm that Sessegnon won’t feature again this season but Emerson Royal could potentially be back before the campaign draws to a close.

“Ryan had a significant injury and he won’t feature for the rest of the season,” explained the 31-year-old. “Emerson is day by day now and hopefully he can help us before the end of the season.”

Yves Bissouma could also potentially join Emerson back on the pitch as he works his way back to fitness after requiring surgery to repair a stress fracture to his left ankle in February.

“We’re hopeful [he can play a part before the end of the season],” said Mason on Bissouma’s recovery. “Some hurdles he’s got to overcome.”

Mason did admit that it is too early to put a date on Rodrigo Bentancur’s return from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up at Leicester in February, though.

“Obviously you can have setbacks with this kind of thing,” he explained. “We’re assessing him day by day. Probably too early to set a return date.”
