Sources: Newcastle United in advanced talks over club-record Bruno Guimaraes deal

Bruno Guimaraes is set to become the best-paid player in Newcastle United’s history when he puts pen to paper on a contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks over a blockbuster new deal for the 25-year-old are advanced and he is expected to sign at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Sources told Football Insider on Friday (5 May) that all indications are that a bumper new contract is wrapped up and will be announced in the coming weeks.

Newcastle has no intention of accepting any offers for Guimaraes despite links with Premier League rivals this term.

Guimares signed a four-year deal worth around £ 120,000 a week when he joined the Magpies in January 2022.

The Brazil international cost a reported fee of £ 40 million as he became the first marquee signing of the Saudi-backed regime.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the midfielder’s new deal will secure him a huge pay hike and rocket him towards the £200,000-a-week bracket.

According to FBRef, Alexander Isak is the only Newcastle player earning a wage on par with Guimaraes (£ 120,000 a week).

Guimaraes has established himself as a firm fan favorite during his time at St James’ Park – and has insisted he wants to become a club legend.

He has racked up 35 appearances across all competitions this season, notching four goals and five assists.

The midfielder and his teammates are set to play Champions League football in the 2023-24 campaign after pulling six points clear of fifth-place, Liverpool.

Newcastle is set to scour the market for an elite partner for Guimaraes this summer.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (4 May) that the Magpies are well placed to sign £ 60 million-rated Nice star Khephren Thuram this summer.

In other news, the brutal Newcastle seven-player clearout begins.
