CASCARINO SAYS NEW TOTTENHAM MANAGER LACK EXPERIENCE

Tony Cascarino has said that the prospective new Tottenham Hotspur manager could sell Eric Dier in the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea player has written in The Times that Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason was right to drop Dier from the starting lineup for the Premier League match against Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this past weekend.

And talkSPORT pundit Cascarino believes that it was the right decision.

The pundit does not rate Dier, and he believes that whoever becomes the new Tottenham manager in the summer of 2023 could sell the £92,000-a-week (SalarySport).

Tony Cascarino on Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier

Cascarino wrote: “Eric Dier losing his starting spot was long overdue. He has played poorly since the World Cup and while the Tottenham Hotspur defender is versatile, he lacks a standout skill.

“New head coaches, even interim ones, need to make a statement when taking over a struggling team, so dropping Dier was a natural decision for Ryan Mason.

“Dier has been at Spurs since 2014 and I wonder whether this summer’s head coach appointment will determine his future in north London.”

In our view, it is a bit harsh of Tony Cascarino in regard to his comments about Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.

Now, no one would say that Dier is one of the best center-backs in the Premier League.

But the Englishman is a good player who has done well for Spurs over the years.

Yes, Dier’s recent performances for Spurs have not been great, but you could say the same about Cristian Romero.

While we do think that if Tottenham is able to sign a better center-back than Dier in the summer transfer window, then they should do so, we also believe that the 29-year-old, who can also operate as a midfielder, is a good player.

VINCENT KOMPANY MAKES BURNLEY DECISION AMID TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR INTEREST

Tottenham Hotspur has now officially missed out on the potential managerial appointment of Vincent Kompany, who has decided to sign a new contract with Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur linked with Burnley manager Vincent Kompany

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is on the hunt for a new permanent manager.

Ryan Mason is in charge of Tottenham until the end of the season.

One of the managers who has been linked with Tottenham is former Manchester City defender Kompany.

The Belgian has guided Burnley to automatic promotion to the Premier League for next season.

The Clarets were the dominant team in the Championship this season and blew everyone away.

Burnley also played brilliant football and was a joy to watch.

Last month, TEAMtalk reported that Tottenham are interested in hiring Kompany as their new manager.

The report added that West Ham United and Crystal Palace also admire the former City star.

The Daily Mail also reported in April that Tottenham wants to appoint Burnley boss Kompany as their new manager.

‘It also feels right

However, the 37-year-old has decided to stay at Burnley and sign a new contract, as announced on the Clarets’ official website.

And he is over the moon, and so is Burnley chairman Alan Pace.

Kompany said: “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start – so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.

“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

Pace said: “We are ecstatic Vincent has signed a new deal! He is the perfect fit for how we all see Burnley Football Club moving forward.

“An extraordinary leader, setting ever higher standards and driving our club to the levels we all want to achieve.”
