Tottenham’s stance on Julian Nagelsmann confirmed as Levy makes huge decision

Julian Nagelsmann has been heavily linked with the Tottenham Hotspur head coach vacancy following his dismissal from Bayern Munich

Julian Nagelsmann is not being considered for the current Tottenham head coach vacancy as Daniel Levy looks to find Antonio Conte’s long-term successor, in football. London understands. Following the Italian’s departure at the end of March, a number of managers have been linked with the hot seat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including Nagelsmann.

Amid plenty of speculation about the German moving to N17 following his Bayern Munich exit, Tottenham has insisted that they have not met with the 35-year-old and they do not intend to. There is plenty of respect for Nagelsmann within the north London club but he is not being seen as the one for Tottenham right now as they look to find the head coach to take the club forward.

Seen as a standout candidate for the position after making his name in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann was also linked with the Chelsea job but former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino appears on course to take on that role at Stamford Bridge. Others to have been mentioned in regards to the Tottenham vacancy include Roberto De Zerbi, Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim, Arne Slot and Ange Postecoglou.

Following Conte’s exit and the decision to sack Cristian Stellini in wake of the 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle United, Ryan Mason has taken on the acting head coach role for the remainder of the season. Taking four points from a possible nine in his first three matches in charge, the 31-year-old has three more games to go and he will be intent on securing European football for Tottenham next campaign.

Speaking ahead of the recent draw with Manchester United, Mason did throw his hat into the ring for the job on a permanent basis. He said: “Obviously I’m ready and if that situation happens it obviously means I have done a good job.

“But that is obviously in the future of four five six weeks’ time, the immediate thought is the game on Thursday and the game on Sunday. We have big weeks before anyone in here can start to think of that situation.”

Not only need a new head coach, but Levy must also find a new managing director of football this summer after Fabio Paratici’s departure last month. That leaves the chairman facing two huge calls as he looks to get Tottenham back on track and competing for major honors once again.
