Evans demand

Leicester City captain Jonny Evans has admitted that the team ‘haven’t been good’ this season as they slipped further towards relegation on Monday night.

City went into the game against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium knowing that a win would lift them above Leeds and Everton and out of the relegation zone ahead of the final two games of the season. But a first-half brace from Curtis Jones and a second-half strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the team fall to a 3-0 defeat.

The result means that City could be relegated from the Premier League should results go against them next weekend and they lose against Champions League-chasing Newcastle next Monday night.

Speaking after the Liverpool loss he said: “We’ve got two more games left and we have to put in the same effort we showed tonight, the same commitment. We’ve got a tough game away at Newcastle and then the last home game of the season, but we’ll be competing like we did tonight.”

‘Absolute shambles’

Leicester City has been “an absolute shambles” defensively this season according to pundit and former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent.

The Foxes have conceded 67 goals in the Premier League during the current campaign, the joint third most alongside East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest. City have also failed to keep a clean sheet in all competitions since winning 1-0 at Gillingham in the FA Cup on January 7.

Monday night’s 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool has left Dean Smith’s side two points from safety with just two games left. Leicester could be relegated if Everton beat Wolves on Saturday and City lose at Newcastle two days later.

Pre-season announcement

Leicester City will face Premier League heavyweights Tottenham and Liverpool in a pre-season tour to south-east Asia this July, it has been announced.

Dates have been set for two matches to take place in Thailand and Singapore over the final two weekends of July as City plays outside of Europe for the first time since 2017.

The club’s recent pre-season excursions have not ventured outside of Western Europe, but this summer, they have lined up a trip back to Asia, having played West Brom and Liverpool in Hong Kong six years ago.

Manager ‘talks’

Leicester City-linked manager Russell Martin is reportedly set to hold talks with Swansea City’s hierarchy this week in order to discuss his future at the club.

The city was linked with an interest in the manager last week, with reports claiming that he is ‘top of the list’ of potential candidates to take over at the King Power Stadium should the club be relegated at the end of the season.

Results over the last two weeks, including a 3-0 loss against Liverpool on Monday night, now makes playing in the Championship next season a likely situation. City are two points adrift of safety with two games of the season remaining and could have relegation confirmed as early as next Monday if results don’t go their way and they lose against Newcastle.
