Latest news regarding this Newcastle United youngster emerges ahead of the summer

Joe White has returned to Newcastle United following the expiration of his loan deal at Exeter City. The midfielder was given the green light to join the Devon club during the January transfer window to get some more experience under his belt.

Newcastle United - Introducing Joe White

He went on to make 16 appearances for the League One side during the second half of the season. It remains to be seen whether the Grecians will try and bring him back this summer.

After releasing their retained list, Exeter boss Gary Caldwell, who has worked as a youth coach at Newcastle, hasn’t ruled out a reunion: “The loanees made a huge impact on our season and whilst they have returned to their parent clubs, we hope to see them again if we can make that happen.”

The Toon Army will have a decision to make on what to do with White ahead of the next campaign. He remains under contract until 2025 but his chances of breaking into their senior team are slim at the moment.

Speaking earlier this year about potentially breaking into Newcastle’s team one day, he told BBC Sport: “The more games you’ve got (when you’re in Europe), because of how well they’re doing, it can help because hopefully, you can get minutes in certain competitions because of the number of games.

“But at the same time, you’re competing against better players – the best Premier League players at the minute – to try and take their place.

“That’s what training’s about, just looking at who is in your position and what you can do to be as good or if not better than him.”

White, 20, started his career at Carlisle United before Newcastle snapped him up back in 2016. He has since been a key player at youth levels for the North East outfit but is still awaiting his first competitive first-team appearance.

Newcastle United ‘Advantage’ Claimed by Rival Premier League boss amid crowd backlash

Newcastle United faces a Premier League home doubleheader against Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City in the next six days.

Two wins. Sounds simple doesn’t it?

All Newcastle United has to do in the next two games is take six points. Do that, and Champions League football will be returning to St James’ Park for the first time in two decades.

Standing in between a guaranteed top-four place and the Magpies are two back-to-back home encounters with Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City – as well as a last-day trip to Chelsea.

And while the full focus for Eddie Howe over the next 48 hours will be Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls, who head to SJP on Thursday evening (kick-off 8 pm), Leicester boss Dean Smith’s attention has already turned to his side’s trip to Tyneside on Monday.

The Foxes are staring down the barrel in 19th in the Premier League – and depending on results elsewhere, could be relegated at Newcastle.

“Of course, I do (believe Leicester can survive),” said Smith. “I don’t like playing Monday nights, I don’t think it’s right. We’ll certainly know what we’ll have to do at St James’ Park next week.”

Smith and his players were booed at half time and full time of the 3-0 home loss to Liverpool last Monday, a game which was watched in the King Power Stadium stands by Dan Ashworth.

Referring to the crowd’s reaction, Smith went on: “The crowd is here to see us try and win football games. They get disappointed when you’re two goals down. No football fan wants to see their team get beat.”
