Confirmed: 26 years old player returns to training ahead of Newcastle United v Leicester City

Leicester City’s interim manager, Dean Smith has confirmed that Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to training.

Iheanacho picked up a groin injury in Leicester City’s 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road last month and has missed the Foxes’ last three Premier League games against Everton, Fulham, and Liverpool.

Before his injury, the 26-year-old was beginning to find his form under Smith, having started two of the three games he was available for selection and finding the back of the net twice.

Iheanacho has registered 9 goal contributions this season for the one-time Premier League champions.

He has scored 5 goals and registered 4 assists, which is the third-highest goal contribution among Leicester City’s players this season.

Smith while providing an update on Iheanacho’s fitness in his pre-match conference ahead of his side’s Monday game against Champions League hopefuls, Newcastle was quoted as saying by the official website of Leicester City: “Kelechi was in training today and he’ll be in full training on Saturday morning,

“Kels has ticked all the boxes he’d need to. We’ve probably had to press the fast-forward button, but it’s needs must at the moment.”

The English tactician will be hoping the Nigerian attacker can play a part against the Magpies as Leicester continue their battle to escape relegation.

They currently occupy 19th position in the Premier League table, two points adrift of safety with two games left to be played.
