Newcastle are in a very strong position to now complete the signing of Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, sources have told Football Insider.
The left-back, 25, is a top summer target for the north-east giants and Manchester City have also sounded out the possibility of signing him this summer.
It is understood that Tierney is keen to move closer to his family and Newcastle presents the best opportunity for him to be closer to Scotland.
The likelihood of the former Celtic man leaving Arsenal this summer is growing despite manager Mikel Arteta’s refusal to admit the possibility and continuing to say he has high hopes for Tierney at Arsenal.
Football Insider first revealed Newcastle’s strong interest in the former Celtic star in February, and he remains a key target.
Should a deal not be agreed, Aston Villa has joined Man City in monitoring his situation and waiting in the wings.
Privately, the north Londoners are believed to value the Scot at around the £30million mark and that could be enough to seal a deal for him.
The expectation is that Newcastle will now push on with their efforts to land the former Celtic star after pinpointing him as a priority this summer.
Arsenal signed Tierney from Celtic for £25 million in 2019 and he is on a deal until June 2026.
Tierney has made 34 appearances for The Gunners this season despite playing backup to Oleksandr Zinchenko. He has played 121 times in total for Arsenal and represented his country on 37 occasions.
