Gary Lineker’s Leicester City conspiracy theory was laughed off by Alan Shearer on Match of the Day as the Foxes stare relegation in the face with two games to go

Gary Lineker has cheekily blamed the timing of Leicester City’s Premier League fixtures as the reason for their battle with relegation.

The former Foxes striker pointed out on Match of the Day on Saturday (May 21) that Dean Smith’s side will have played on four Monday evenings in a row.

The 62-year-old’s tongue-in-cheek explanation was then laughed off by Alan Shearer and Jermaine Jenas, with the latter predicting that Leicester will not beat the drop.

Taking a look at the remaining fixtures for Leeds, Everton, and his beloved Leicester, Lineker said: “Let’s have a look at how it stands at the bottom.

“For some of us, it makes awfully grim viewing, but we’ll have a gander nevertheless.

“Huge game tomorrow, Leeds vs West Ham. Obviously, Leicester plays on Monday, again, that’s four Mondays on the bounce – I don’t know if it’s some kind of plan to make sure Leicester goes down…”

Shearer interjected by saying: “Oh stop it!” Lineker then continued: “Conspiracy theories there… No, what do you think? Give me some hope.”

Jenas then said: “We’re at the end of the season where there are some strange things – West Ham, for example, have the Europa Conference League final and they’re playing in two of the games.

“They’ve got yourselves (Leicester) last game of the season and Leeds are going to be facing them as well.

“What team David Moyes picks out, I don’t know. It’s looking bleak for Leicester in my opinion.”

Leicester have picked up just 30 points from their 36 fixtures with only eight victories, having finished in the top half of the table for five seasons in a row.

With Southampton relegated and Nottingham Forest safe, two of Everton, Leeds, and Leicester will be playing in the Championship next season.
