Nottingham Forest will now have to shell out £650,000 to Aberdeen as part of the deal that saw the Reds sign Scott McKenna.
The center-back was signed by the Reds in 2020 from the Dons and he’s become a firm hit with the supporters.
The Press and Journal have now reported that a six-figure sum is due to Aberdeen after another clause was activated.
McKenna was thought to have cost around £4 million with a series of add-ons included in the deal which saw him head south of the border.
Last summer, Forest forked out another £1 million. McKenna was the Man of the Match in the Championship Play-Off Final and claimed the Player of the Year accolade.
Now, he will cost the club more money. One of the add-ons was thought to be activated if Forest survived in the Premier League and now that has been accomplished.
The Reds defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday. Taiwo Awoniyi scored the game’s only goal, and the Reds are now safe.
McKenna wasn’t included on Saturday. He’s suffered a fractured collarbone and subsequently won’t play again this season.
The 26-year-old remains a vital player though. He’s improved as the season has gone on and he will be back for pre-season.
Forest will have to shell out another McKenna payment
This isn’t really an issue. Clearly, Forest won’t struggle to find the money for this small payment now that Premier League football has been secured.
The Reds were wise to sign McKenna. He was touted with a move to several EFL clubs before he came to Forest and they’ve not regretted their decision.
The center-back was brilliant as Forest won promotion. He started slowly in the Premier League but before a hamstring injury in February, it looked as though he’d turned a corner.
Another McKenna payment essentially indicated that Forest is doing well. As a result, the Reds will gladly pay the latest installment now that safety is secured.
