Micah Richards says 23-year-old has actually been Nottingham Forest’s Jesse Lingard this season

Micah Richards has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White. He’s also claimed that he’s become the player that the club felt Jesse Lingard would become this season.

The Reds added Gibbs-White on a club-record transfer fee from Wolves. Eyebrows were raised at the fact that the fee could rise to £42 million but he’s been worth his weight in gold.

The player has been in fine form during the season’s final weeks. He’s found the net on five occasions this season, registering seven assists during the campaign.

Forest have secured their Premier League status with a game to spare. They’ve claimed 10 points from their last five games and Gibbs-White has been the star man on more than one occasion.

BBC Sport pundit Richards has been very impressed. He has now praised the player and believes he’s been the sort of player that Forest thought they were getting when they added Lingard.

Richards told the Monday Night Club: “Morgan Gibbs White has been the player they thought Lingard was going to be and Johnson has been great too.”

Gibbs-White will find out this week if he’s been selected for the England under-21 squad for the European Championships. He has been linked with a call-up to the senior squad but for now, that might have to wait.

Richards has heaped praise on Forest star Gibbs-White

The 23-year-old is an unbelievable player and Forest did well to get him. At the time, Everton and Crystal Palace were both keen on signing him but the Steve Cooper element swayed Gibbs-White.

Richards has spoken fondly of Forest this season and it’s no surprise he’s raved about Gibbs-White. On Saturday, he assisted Taiwo Awoniyi to score the game’s only goal after 19 minutes.

The challenge for the youngster is to continue going on an upward trajectory. If he does that, Forest could have a seriously talented player on their hands in the next few years.
