Newcastle United now need to offer €20m+ for signing – €16m offer was not enough

Not long ago, Newcastle United were said to be in a heavy chase for Flamengo midfielder Matheus França.

It was even claimed the Magpies submitted several bids to sign the youngster, but that was not enough to convince the Brazilian side to sell him.

Now as Lance today feature a story on the 19-year-old, it’s claimed that Flamengo actually ‘should’ lose him in the summer window.

The outlet mentions that Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen all placed their bids before, and now ‘stronger’ offers are about to arrive.

Back then, €16m was the highest amount on Flamengo’s table. This time, they should only listen to offers worth over €20m.

It’s not yet said whether Newcastle would make a second attempt for França, although the summer window undoubtedly allows the clubs to make bigger investments than in January.

The wonderkid was supposed to be playing the at U-20 World Cup with Brazil right now, but given his importance for Flamengo, the club did not let him go to the tournament. At 19, he already has 50 appearances for the current Copa Libertadores champions.
