Report: 40-year-old coached expected to stay at Leeds even if Sam Allardyce leaves

Michael Skubala is ‘expected’ to remain at Leeds United this summer regardless of what happens with the managerial situation.

Michael Skubala appointed Under-21s head coach - Leeds United

That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who claim Sam Allardyce’s future at Elland Road will have no bearing on what happens with Skubala, and he could even return to his original role as U21s manager.

Skubala has been thrust straight into the deep end at Leeds this season, taking caretaker charge of the senior side back in February, while also becoming a key figure among Allardyce’s backroom team.

However, a damaging defeat at Everton saw Leeds appoint Javi Gracia, but Skubala has remained part of the main setup ever since then.

Skubala set to stay

It will be vital for Leeds to have some sort of continuity this summer and keeping Skubala will give them at least some opportunity to do that.

The former England U18s assistant was doing a good job with the U21s until he was shifted into the limelight, and he should be given the chance to return to his former role.

Paco Gallardo is the man currently leading the young Whites, and while he helped guide them to promotion back to Premier League Two Division One, he was hired by Victor Orta and so may well depart.

If Leeds are to be in the Championship next season, Skubala will also be vital in ensuring which potential youngsters are capable of making the step up.

There will be a number from the U21s pushing for first team action and Skubala is the perfect man to be able to bridge that gap.
