and was a Huddersfield Town season ticket holder

Tributes have been paid to a Huddersfield Town fan who was known for his love of designer clothes, music, and football.

Gordon Stokes, who went missing from his home in Longwood, Huddersfield, was tragically found dead on Wednesday, May 24, following a search by West Yorkshire Police.

Gordon, who was 53 and a divorced father-of-one, was a Huddersfield Town season ticket holder and was well-known for his love of 90s dance music, clothes, and Town.

His sister, Lisa Stokes, described Gordon as a ‘wonderful man’. She said a lot of his old school friends from Colne Valley High School had been in touch to express their condolences.

She said: “Lots of messages (have come in) saying they will always remember him. He was always happy (and) cheered a lot of people up.”

Lisa said friends had recalled that his brother would sometimes introduce himself as ‘gorgeous Gordon’. She said: “A lot of people who knew him have memories from the music scene in the 1990s or Town matches or his love for Adidas trainers.

“He was well known for his designer clothes and Adidas trainers. He was a Huddersfield Town season ticket holder (with) a love for 90s dance music. Even though he was battling his own demons (he was) always willing to help others and has helped others with their recovery.”

Lisa has set up a fundraiser to help pay for her brother’s funeral. So far, almost £2,000 has been raised from more than 70 donations. The GoFundMe page can be found here.

Posting on the page, Lisa said: “Sadly Gordon went missing and was found deceased on May 24. As some of you know, Gordon had dementia and epilepsy and we believe both of these factored into his passing.

“If you would possibly be able to contribute in any way to help give this wonderful man the goodbye he so sorely deserves. Anyone who knew Gordon knows how much his family and friends meant to him and the love and kindness he always expressed to anyone he met, please help us to give him the send-off he deserves.”

Gordon was reported missing on Monday, May 22. Police said his body was found in the Milnsbridge area of Huddersfield on May 24.
