‘I’m sad’ – Everton defender announces summer departure

Everton transfer news as Ruben Vinagre confirms his exit after his season-long loan.

Ruebn Vinagre has said his goodbyes to Everton.

Vinagre Signs For Everton

The left-back joined the Toffees on loan from Sporting Lisbon at the start of the 2022-23 season. However, Vinagre struggled for minutes at Goodison Park, having been behind Vitalii Mykolenko in the pecking order.

The former Wolves man-made only four appearances for Everton and missed the business end of the season with an injury as Premier League survival was secured.

The Blues reportedly had the option to make Vinagre’s move permanent but have seemingly opted against it.

Posting on Instagram, Vinagre said: “Thank you Evertonians! It has been a pleasure wearing this shirt for the past season! I’m sad for not having the opportunity to contribute more, but I’ve done everything I was allowed to. I wish our history would’ve been different!

“I’m really glad that we were able to maintain this big club in the Premier League because you deserve it and so much more!

“I have no doubt in my mind that Everton will go back to the place that it deserves, it’s a great club and full of history! Thank you all, wish you all the best.”

Gyokeres assisted Gustavo Hamer’s equalizer in the second half before the two sides couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes. After 11 perfect penalties, the Sky Blues right-back blazed over. The Blues have been increasingly linked with the Coventry star after the Swede took the second tier by storm scoring 21 goals and notching 12 assists.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, he said: “Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising every time we fall.”

The Independent reported that the Blues are “long-term admirers” of the 24-year-old. Although it remains to be seen whether the interest is realistic with the likely inflated prices.

Since his arrival, Sean Dyche has had to manage with Neal Maupay and Ellis Simms as his strike options after a number of injury troubles for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The talisman was injured during the former Burnley boss’ first game in charge against Arsenal and managed just six outings – scoring once during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City – before being forced off at half-time against Wolves forcing him out of the final day win.

Speaking after their agonizing defeat, Coventry boss Mark Robins dismissed talk of the departures of both Gyokeres and Hamer.

“I don’t think that’s really a question for now,” he said. “I think we’ve got to sit and think about this and let it sink in and reflect on it. But again, you use this as fuel to come back stronger, I think.

“If you can’t do that, then you’re in the wrong sport, you’re in the wrong game. We have to try and use that to galvanize us to go again.”
