GARY Rowett hasn’t ruled out monitoring the situations of Leeds United duo Charlie Cresswell and Jamie Shackleton over the summer after the pair spent last season on loan with Millwall.

Centre-back Cresswell, 20, featured more regularly for the Lions, playing 30 times in all competitions and scoring four goals.

Although Shackleton, 23, played more games (37), he started just 18 times compared to 27 for Cresswell.

Since Rowett took charge in October 2019, Millwall has re-signed five loanees, either on loan again or on permanent deals: Ryan Woods, Mason Bennett, Scott Malone, Benik Afobe, and Oliver Burke.

Last season, the Lions had Cresswell, Shackleton, Burke, and Callum Styles on one-year loan deals.

Former Millwall defender Sam Allardyce’s Leeds go into the final game of the season at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in second-last place in the Premier League. Leeds needs to win by three goals if Everton draws with Bournemouth and also hopes that Leicester City doesn’t defeat West Ham United.

“With all of those players, you’re always seeing what happens, what’s their next step,” Rowett told NewsAtDen. “That will be out of our hands with all of the loan players.

“They all go back to their clubs and their clubs then decide what is their plan moving forward for those players.

“It’s very difficult to find that out early. A lot of those players will have good options if they’re not staying at their current clubs for next season.

“Therefore, we’ll have those discussions and see where we are but it’s probably difficult to answer that definitively.”
