Exclusive: Tottenham to make official manager approach – ‘the job is his’

Sources: Tottenham to make approach for Ange Postecoglou – ‘the job is his’

I think you asking that question is a bit mischievous,” Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham will make an approach for Ange Postecoglou and the club’s manager job is “his if he wants it”, sources have told Football Insider.

The Celtic boss is now the frontrunner for the vacant position and has the opportunity to join the English Premier League side after his team’s participation in the Scottish Cup Final this weekend.

Postecoglou has been in the box seat to land the job since Arne Slot announced last week he was out of the running and Spurs have been patient and respectful in their movements while Celtic aim to secure a remarkable domestic treble.

The 57-year-old has wrapped up back-to-back titles with The Hoops and is well-placed to secure a clean sweep if his side can beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Spurs have had a drawn-out process to secure a new manager with negotiations with Feyenoord boss Slot reaching an advanced stage before they collapsed.

Julian Nagglesman also turned down the role, while Luis Enrique and Ruben Amorim are both still in the running for the position along with Postecoglou.

However, the Celtic manager is now understood to be in a very strong position to be in the dugout at the Tottenham stadium for the start of next season.

Formal negotiations could now begin as soon as the Hampden Park showpiece is finished.

He has restored the Glasgow giants’ domestic dominance since succeeding Neil Lennon in the summer of 2021 and earned plaudits for overseeing a cavalier playing style on the back of outstanding recruitment.

Postecoglou’s knowledge of the Japanese market has been central to the team’s revival and that has won over Spurs chiefs.
