According to leading Portuguese sports paper the Record, the 19 times Primeira Liga champions have “taken a step forward” in their attempts to sign the Sweden international by making a formal “first offer” of 12 million Euros (£10.3m) with 3m in add-ons.

The report claims that the 25-year-old Sky Blues striker is “at the top” of manager Rúben Amorim’s wish list as he looks to bolster his forward line in the summer transfer window.

Record claims that Sporting had already “made a request” to Coventry about the player’s availability – backed up by Gyokeres’s agent, named as Ali Dursan, who spoke to the newspaper to confirm the interest.

The club is keen to try to sign him and has, according to the newspaper’s information, made the first “proposal” to Coventry to try and sign him.

If successful, the above figures would make Gyokeres one of the most expensive signings in the history of the Portuguese club. However, the bid is expected to be rejected by Coventry who, the report says, are ‘unyielding’ in their demands for the forward who is rated nearer to the £20m mark.

Gyokeres is also been linked with interest from a stack of Premier League clubs including West Ham, Everton, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Brentford, and Everton, while newly relegated Leeds and Southampton are also admirers as well as Lille, Frankfurt, and Rangers.
