A report has claimed that Luton Town has the option to sign Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on a permanent deal. The Reds custodian helped the Hatters win a promotion to the Premier League during 2022/23.

Horvath has aspirations of being the number one goalkeeper in the USA team. It’s one of the reasons why he joined Forest in 2021 and he will be desperate to continue playing regular football.

During 2021/22, he made 11 appearances between the sticks for Forest. Ultimately, he was unable to permanently dislodge Brice Samba from his position as the number one goalkeeper.

Following promotion, to the top flight, it seems obvious that Horvath wouldn’t play much. As a result, he decided to head out on loan and joined Luton who were managed by Nathan Jones when they signed him.

Under Rob Edwards, the goalkeeper has really kicked on. He kept 20 clean sheets during 2022/23 and helped Luton finish third before they beat Coventry in the Play-Off Final.

Now, according to The Athletic, Luton do have an option to sign the goalkeeper. He will have a single year to run on his existing Forest deal but this is surely something that Luton will look to do.

Horvath was fantastic for the promoted side. Although the club may fancy attracting a better goalkeeper with their Premier League riches remains to be seen but the 27-year-old could be a useful player.

Luton have option to sign Forest man Horvath

It seems unlikely that Forest will utilise Horvath next season. They’re hoping to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United and Wayne Hennessey is still contracted at the club.

The stopper will be craving more football next season. Also, he will surely fancy a crack at the Premier League after winning promotion in successive seasons.

Horvath went to the World Cup with the USA at the end of 2022. He wasn’t the first choice and if he’s got any chance of dispossessing Matt Turner he needs to be playing regular football.

The player won’t be doing that anytime soon at Forest. With that in mind, he will have everything crossed that Luton activate their option to purchase him this summer.
