Medical scheduled: Rangers has signed a world-class star on a two-year contract – report

Scott Arfield is to jet out to the USA for medical as the next deal agreed upon after the Rangers exit

Scott Arfield is set to switch life in Scotland and Rangers for the USA this summer, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The 15 June report states that Canadian ace Arfield is on the brink of joining the MLS with Charlotte FC following the conclusion of his contract at Rangers.

The 34-year-old, who won the title with Rangers in 2021, is expected to undergo a medical this weekend and complete the move.

Rangers

He will link up with former Burnley teammate Ashley Westwood at his new club. Arfield spent three years at Burnley playing in the Premier League under Sean Dyche before moving to Rangers.

His move will see him potentially brush shoulders with arguably the game’s greatest player, Lionel Messi, when Charlotte FC hosts Inter Miami on 21 October in the final game of the MLS season. Arfield’s new club currently sits 10th in MLS’ Eastern Conference League, one spot outside the playoffs on goal difference.

Right timing

Arfield’s move to the MLS makes sense for the Canadian international. It is often around the age of 34 or 35 when you see players from Europe make the switch to the MLS or various other leagues outside the continent. These clubs will tend to offer players bigger salaries at this stage of their career than they would be offered in Europe.

Therefore, it feels like the right time for Arfield to go and get one last payday and see out his career in the USA, especially with the player’s Canadian background, with the move taking him much closer to home than he was while playing in Scotland or England.

Arfield will be remembered fondly by Rangers fans. The midfielder played 233 games for the club and scored on 43 occasions while providing 19 assists, while also being a key figure in the club’s title-winning campaign.

Fans will wish Arfield the best of luck as he moves on to his next chapter.

In other Rangers news, a player is set to make the opposite switch and move from the MLS to the Rangers.
