John Souttar injury update as Rangers star reports for Scotland duty
John Souttar returned to Scotland training today after overcoming a minor injury problem.
The Rangers defender, 26, had missed a training camp with the national team due to a knock.
However, it’s understood he was in training with his Scotland teammates on Wednesday.
We earlier reported that Souttar joined the Scotland set-up last night and reported to medics for an assessment.
Now, it appears Souttar could be in line to feature against Norway for Scotland on Saturday despite the previous injury fears.
There had been concerns Souttar would miss the match, but it’s thought he has overcome the niggle and is in contention after his return to training.
It comes as a huge boost to Steve Clarke who is already without Grant Hanley and Scott McKenna for the Euro qualifying clash in Oslo.
Ryan Porteous, Jack Hendry, Kieran Tierney, Liam Cooper, and Dom Hyam are all possible starters in central defense to face Norway before the return to Hampden to play Georgia.
Clarke will be hopeful Souttar is available for the fixture with Erling Haaland set to test the Scotland rearguard.
Scotland head into the fixture with a flawless record after the opening qualifying matches against Cyprus and Spain.
The national team first earned a 3-0 win over Cyprus at Hampden in the opening match of the qualification campaign before an upset 2-0 triumph over Spain in Glasgow.
Scotland assistant John Carver admitted his side will have their work cut out to manage Haaland and Co but insisted rival players will be equally worried about taking on Scotland.
He said: “You know what’s amazing? These guys are at their best when they are playing against the best.
“We have a great example from the recent game against Spain where Rodri, who just got man of the match in the Champions League final for Man City on Saturday, and you saw his reaction after the (Scotland) game.
“Yes we have to be aware that he (Haaland) is special and they have got one or two other special players, but we have to make sure we take care of ourselves and set our own high standards.
“They will be worried about some of our players so we really need to focus on us. Deal with the situation, yeah we will do one or two little things, but it’s about us.
“They will be worried about John McGinn, Scott McTominay, people like that, Callum McGregor.”
