Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds man has now agreed personal terms with European club
Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has agreed personal terms with Roma as he closes in on a return to the club.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports talks are moving into the ‘final stages’ as Roma looks to bring the Spanish defender back to the Italian capital.
Llorente spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stadio Olimpico, making 12 appearances across all competitions to help Jose Mourinho’s side reach the final of the Europa League.
Despite his positive impact, Roma opted against triggering the £18 million option-to-buy included in the initial loan deal, instead returning to the negotiating table to find a more suitable agreement.
Romano has not made it clear as to whether Llorente will be returning to Roma on loan or permanently, though Gianluca Di Marzio has also provided another update.
‘One detail’ remaining in Llorente’s return to Roma
Di Marzio claims there is now just ‘one detail’ remaining for Llorente to rejoin Roma, but it will be on loan once again.
He says that while an agreement has been reached, discussions remain ongoing as to whether another option-to-buy will be included in the deal.
Leeds should look to do all they can to include a permanent deal at the end of his second loan spell, even if it is for significantly less than the £18 million previously agreed.
It is clear that regardless of the division Leeds are playing in, Llorente does not have a future at Elland Road and any sort of fee that can be brought in for him would be beneficial.
Leeds are set to lose a number of players this summer after relegation but they cannot afford for too many of them to be loan deals if they want to reinvest significantly into the squad.
