Tottenham player could ask Spurs to terminate his contract – Despite it running until 2025

Tottenham loaned Sergio Reguilon to Atletico Madrid last season because he wasn’t in the plans of manager Antonio Conte.

There weren’t great opportunities for a permanent transfer, so the plan was to let him shine at Atletico and revalue himself.

Unfortunately, the loan move couldn’t have gone much worse and it’s had the opposite impact to that desired by Spurs. Reguilon is now worth less than he was a year ago, and there are even suggestions he could leave for free.

Estadio Deportivo report Osasuna are keen on the 26-year-old, as they plan for the window despite UEFA deliberating whether they can play in the Europa Conference League or not.

Reguilon has a Tottenham contract lasting until 2025, and Estadio Deportivo says one way around that for Osasuna would be the player requesting his contract be terminated.

That, clearly, doesn’t sound like a great deal for the Premier League club, and they may instead prefer another season-long loan somewhere and a chance for Reguilon to bring in a transfer fee, even if small, next summer.

For the player himself, a contract termination would also be costly, with Osasuna unlikely to pay anything like what he gets at Spurs.
