Coventry City has “agreed on a fee” with Scottish Premier club Ross County to take Josh Reid back to the club.

The 21-year-old left-back joined the Sky Blues for a six-figure sum back in January 2021, going straight into the club’s development squad but being unable to break through into the first team other than making his full debut in an EFL Cup defeat to Northampton Town in August of that same year.

Now, according to our sister title the Daily Record, Ross County has agreed a fee to bring the defender back to the club where he started his career.

The report claims that the player, who has three caps for Scotland Under-21s, has been given permission to open talks with the Staggies. Manager Malky Mackay, it says, wants to bring in Reid to strengthen his left-back position and they now hope to agree personal terms to make him their second signing of the summer.

Reid came through the County ranks before he swapped Dingwall for the Midlands, having made 20 top-flight appearances for the Scottish club. Reid is said to be keen to get his career back on track and play regular first-team football again.

Having found it hard to make an impact with the Sky Blues, he went out on loan to Stevenage last season, albeit only making one appearance for the then League Two side who gained automatic promotion to League One last month.

Reid was part of the successful City side that won the Professional Development League in 2022.

County has already been active in the transfer window, signing Kyle Turner on freedom of contract from Partick Thistle this summer, and

Mackay is looking to strengthen his squad further, as he looks to make sure County doesn’t end up in another relegation scrap. They managed to maintain their Premiership status after a spirited comeback in the play-off final against Partick Thistle.
